The Artist:
H. R. Roundtree A.K.A BLACKG
H.R. Roundtree, Blackgoodfella, Black-G was born and raised in Houston,
Texas on July 1, 1979 The native Houstonian was raised by his mother and
grandmother in the inner city and grew up in the struggle.
He attended St. Mary's and St. Peter's Private Schools from Pre-K to 5th
grade. He attended Pershing Middle School in 6th grade, and Welch Middle
School for 7th and 8th grades. It was during this time (1992-1993) when
he began to develop the skill of writing, and creating dynamic Hip-Hop
lyrics. He also met the Duo group M.U.C.H. POSSE, $Bandit, and Painkilla
(formerly known as D.J. Champain), 102 Jamz, and 97.9 former disc
jockey. At this time they also had an underground Houston hit called "On
Fondren".
Learning the ins and outs from his peers, in 1997, Black-G released his
first Maxi single called, No Mo Rappin (it's called ride) with the help
of $ Bandit and Painkilla. Due to finances and circumstances, they
didn't continue to push the single.
Black-G appeared on D.A.L. Records artist, ENDO's, "One World, One
Chance" Album on a track called "Nothin or Nationwide" which was also on
D.A.L.'s "Chopped and Screwed" 2001 compilation. Black-G has performed in
the Astroarena in Houston, Texas, and at many nightclubs in Texas and
Louisiana.
In 2003-2004 Splitt Second/Mash da gaz T.V. filmed his first local
video called "Still on Fondren". It aired for seven months on Houston
basic cable access channel 17 to promote his debut album, "The
Unexpected, They made me...". "Still on Fondren" was a ten year
remake of his day one homies, M.U.C.H. Posse's, "On Fondren", to keep
showing love for the hood with the launch of Black-G and his cousin's
new independent record label, First Mind Records.
Be on the look out to hear more from Black-G in the years to come.
